About Carol River, LMT, CIIM, HCHI
Carol is a transformational hypnotherapist, massage therapist and birth guardian. She educates and supports women and families through pre-conception, pregnancy, birth and the newborn period. Her clients are passionate about envisioning and creating a deeply connected birth experience. Birth is a sacred passage that Carol is honored to witness and support.
Carol has been observing and supporting babies for many years, and has a unique ability to nurture family relationships in the early weeks and months of a new life.
Carol has been serving the Portland community as a licensed massage therapist since 1996. Soon after opening her massage practice in the Hollywood district of NE Portland, she realized her desire to expand her services to budding families. Carol attended an infant massage instructor training in 1997 and was hooked. She has passionately been educating parents in the art of infant massage/touch communication for many years. She added in prenatal/postpartum massage and craniosacral therapy for newborns/infants and adults in 1999. That same year Carol began attending births as a doula to support gentle, aware birthing of babies and families. Carol completed the 5-day Itsy Bitsy Yoga facilitator training in 2007.
Carol has been fascinated with Human Development and has studied prenatal and early childhood development for many years.
Carol became a Hypnobabies Certified Childbirth Instructor (HCHI) in 2008.
Carol is developing fertility support classes, which will include SoulCollage® art, journaling, meditation, gentle yoga, and mindful and heartfelt discussions. She has been on the Board of Brief Encounters since early 2009, serving as an (In)Fertility and Adoption grief/support peer group facilitator and hospital liaison. Please email Carol to inquire about this group, which meets first Tuesday evenings at Peace House in NE Portland.
Carol offers services for all stages of life with a special emphasis on:
- pre-conception / fertility / conscious conception
- subsequent pregnancies after loss / healing after loss
- prenatal, birth and postpartum
- infancy and early family development
- chronic or acute illness and hospitalization / general medical/hospital massage (all hospital patients and their families need doulas/guardians, not just birthing women/families)
- bereavement, grief and end of life care
Whether during infancy/early parenting or at the middle or later stages of life, or anywhere in between, Carol can offer support as you traverse the river of life.
